Off to the Shandon we drove, passing more heed than normal to the most breathtaking of views on the drive I know so well from Letterkenny to Marble Hill beach. Eager to show off my beloved Donegal, Maria was my co-pilot, taking GoPro video footage of the scenes, for me to include in my final video edit, on route.
On arrival, we immediately noticed that any guest would be in for a treat throughout the spa experience on offer in the Shandon Spa. The unrivalled views from the Spa pool, the outdoor hot tub and the top floor relaxation room adjacent to the treatment rooms, are truly like no other. Donegal really is the most phenomenal of counties and the Shandon Spa capitalises so well on the views Donegal has to offer. Moreover, Maria and I had nothing but good reports on our treatments - a massage, facial and dry floatation experience. With ever so reasonable prices, we were left feeling completely relaxed and ready for an evening of little to do and lots to eat - ideal!
With the warmest of welcomes, I made my way to the top floor of the hotel to settle in to my room for the night. Following what I had seen from the spa, I was beyond excited to take in the views from the room the following morning (by this time darkness had fallen on what are becoming very short winter evenings). I delighted in my suite, with cosy living room and the most comfy of beds in what was a beautiful room in this lovely hotel.
With Mum, Dad and a very special guest, baby Annie on their way from Letterkenny, Maria and I readied ourselves for an evening of eating in the hotel dining room. Having enjoyed fireside prosseccos in the ever so Christmassy surroundings, we welcomed Mum, Dad and Annie to the party and went on to enjoy the tastiest of meals with Creme Brûlée desserts all round!
With bellies full, we spent some time in the lounge area before the fire where little Annie became sleepy and ready for her bed. A short spin back to Letterkenny for Mum, Dad Maria and Annie and I received a text to say that all were home safely having had a most enjoyable evening in the Shandon. Now more than cosy myself, I drifted off to sleep in what could only be described as a fluffy cloud!
Usually not a morning person by any description, this morning was different. I hopped out of bed to take in the views that most certainly not disappoint from my top floor room. A picture tells 1000 words...
Having been more than snap happy for at least a half hour, it came time to make my way to breakfast. Joined once again by Maria, with Nanny and Grandad very obligingly looking after Annie, we delved into the finest of buffets in the hotel dining room. Having ever so reluctantly checked out, we made our way to Marble Hill to attempt some sort of damage control after all the eating - a brisk walk along the prettiest of beaches!
I cannot recommend the Shandon Hotel enough as a holiday destination or even, a staycation in your county! The spa is like no other and the hotel itself is hugely family friendly. Amenities like the beach (only a short few minutes walk away) or on site swimming pool, tennis and basketball court and chess grounds to boot, one would not be stuck for recreational activities! Be it a girly spa weekend away or a holiday that the whole family can enjoy, the Shandon and its exemplary staff can cater for it all!
Thank you to the Shandon for the loveliest of stays!
